The Honor Killing

The prosecution alleged it was a case of premeditated murder, staged to look like an accident after it was carried out. Prosecutors said the defendants drowned their victims in Turali , the River on shores of which this beautiful city of Turalistan was situated.

The dead bodies were still to be found out , the allegation was from the newly appointed young Chanakya the Lokayukta of Turalistan , his version was that the whole city of turalistan knew that mriga and hansa were killed after both their parents drowned them in river turali as they did not approve their love. The lokayukta was not fighting against the culprits of this particular case , he was fighting against the whole turalistan but more importantly he was fighting against the society's outlook towards the so called "inappropriate relationship"

The Superior Court Judge Shivendra Nagpal said ..."the evidence clearly supported the conviction"."It is difficult to conceive of a more heinous, more despicable, more honorless crime," Shivendra said. "The apparent reason behind these cold-blooded, shameful murders was that the couple completely innocent victims offended Turalistans's completely twisted concept of honor , that has absolutely no place in any civilized society."He added that the honor killings a practice that is "barbaric and unacceptable "But there was more to it Defense lawyers said the deaths were accidental and to add to it the dead bodies were yet to be found out , the convicted should not be treated like criminals.

But Mr. Shivendra had more to add but keep quite as there was no lawyer adopted the case against the parents and more importantly the panchayat of Turalistan.
Chanakya a Bachelor in law , took permission from the judge to adopt the case,Chanakya argued that..........""" it’s about equality, but it’s also about something else: commitment. Conservatives believe in the ties that bind us; that society is stronger when we make vows to each other and support each other. I only want to emphasize on one point and that is to say, honor killing is a punishment for the women who act not according to the religion, tradition and culture imposed on them. To be more precise it is a punishment for the ones who desire to run their own lifestyle and choose their own partner. The victims are women and young girls who have thirst to be free and they are not willing to compromise for less than modern and humane life style. Honor killing can only be compared with the witch burning that took place during the European Medieval period and it should be seen as comparably disgraceful. Keep in mind that the victims of honor killing were at the forefront of the struggle for a well deserved human life. We should not allow these symbols of resistance to vanish before our eyes."

But as the dead bodies were yet to be found Chankya was left only with morals and rules and some advice to give but was awarded with nothingness , Mr.Shivendra said it was shameful but the verdict had to go in favor of the Parents.

Years past by , Turali saw thirty seasons , but everything had to be corrected. Miss Mynah the newly appointed judge came to this beautiful city .The case was reopened. Mynah asked the now retired lawyer Mr Chanakya to take up the case again. In a landmark judgment in this honor killing case, which happened thirty years ago the court awarded three years sentence to the parents for “attempt to murder” of a couple on the diktats of a self-styled community Panchayat for marrying against societal norms.Turali has to accept the judgment.

No one knew Mriga and Hansa escaped the drowning and were accepted in the kurali village on the other shore of turali .Mynah was their only daughter which they had with the help of The sperm bank. Mynah has made Mriga and Hansa Proud.

PS : Mriga and Hansa were a lesbian Couple.

  1. Good story...The twist in the end makes the story very interesting. While I have my reservations on 'inappropriate relationship', I strongly feel that it does not empower one to punish others.

  3. Captivating story indeed. Honor killings have become so much common these days that a major social edifice has to stop this. But again Economics plays a major factor because of which such social psychology creeps in.
    Nevertheless a great post indeed.
