Chandrakanta

Roopmati, the eldest daughter of the king of Rajgarh, She was the most intelligent girl around Rajgarh and the near by villages. The King of Junagarh, Zaffarulla, who recently beheaded his father to be the king of Junagarh, was in love with Roopmati.Zafarulla followed his father's footsteps of taking over the throne by killing his father, as his father had killed his grandfather to be the King of Junagarh. Zaffar loved Roopmati so much that he married her with in few weeks of meeting her.

One day when Zafar was talking about his future with his family priest , he was shocked to know that he will also be killed by his son and will be dethroned in the same way. He was terrified but never showed his fear to anyone. He had a dangerous plan in making while he was making love to Roopmati everyday and one fine day he proposed the game of changing shapes to her. Both were blessed shapeshifters. Roopmati, even though she was so intelligent, did not realized this was a trap from zafar and she fell right into it , as soon as Roopmati took the shape of a fly ,he swallowed her , thinking that if he could swallow her she would not be able to give birth to the child who would eventually dethrone him.

Months past by and zafar almost forgot about it.But exactly after nine months as he was chilling around the lake around his fort he felt lot of pain in his head. The pain was so much that Zafar had to call his family doctor to actually cut his head and see what the problem was. As soon as the doctor cut his head all were surprised to see chandrakanta fully armored. And now the world could see Chandrakanta.

Chandrakanta became the favorite daughter of Zafar. She was intelligent .she had the strategies which no one could beat.she was the was queen. One day when when zafar was teaching her the arts of armoury which she already knew , Chandrakanta beheaded him and made it appeared as an accident. She had now dethroned him and was the queen of Junagarh.

  1. Indianized birth of Athena..the story always seemed to me like an attempt to rid her of matriarchal conditions...this, the birth of Athena from Zeus alone, gave Zeus the power that only women had..and may be the only man..She did not have any loyalty to a mother figure. That played a big role. She described herself as misogynist but would not have been able to take that role had she had a mother..Nicely done

  2. Good Job Rahul! First I thought it as a take on the famous Hindi novel - Chandrakanta, when I read the title. Then, of course, it became obvious that it was the tale of Athena's birth.
